This was an article I found at: Nature Photographers It is writen by a man named Time Grey. I really enjoy Tim’s style of writing and his ability to explain in detail so Ithought I would share it with you. To read more from Tim Grey you check his links below.
You couldn’t pay me enough NPN Gift Shoppe Dollars to write a column about Windows versus Macintosh. That’s just begging for trouble. And yet, here I am, writing a column about another controversial topic, the focal length multiplier factor on digital SLR cameras (though this topic is admittedly not up there with religion, politics, or operating system debates).
This is a topic that has periodically come up in the NPN Digital Imaging Forum.

When you look at your pet look at the key features that make him or her up. Look at your pets hair, eyes, size etc. Also, think about your pets persona. What makes him or her special? The idea here is to narroow down the things that bring out the personality in your pet, “focus” on them and start shooting. Youll love what you come up with.

A common mistake in pet photography is to concentrate on an animals
face or depict it by itself, without context. If you can detach
yourself from your perception that your dog is soooo cute and look at a
“scene” for its visual interest, your images will certainly come out
more appealing.
We Pet Photographers have a serious job here. We are “light
writers”, meaning we are the ones who are capturing the impressions
of animals today for many to look upon in later years.
So, try something different. Read the rest of this entry »

We all know what “red eye” looks like. I would venture to guess that almost every one of us has, at one time or another managed to capture a subject and produce a photo that looks like the devil’s spawn has possessed a monster from below. This is usually not a good photo to begin with since the lighting that is the cause of “red-eye” is not adequate for the task.
So, while we all recognize the “red-eye” concept, most of us just figure “Oh well, he/she or it just turned the wrong way. I’ll get it next time.” Better yet, I’ll have my computer, camera store, printer remove it.
Well, yes…you can certainly do that since most computer software is programmed to reduce or eliminate the problem. But in the “I’m reading this to learn something” area, you might as well understand why the phenomenon occurs to begin with.

These are some of my favorit images to take. If you look real close in the eye you will see a reflection of myself (the photographer) and my assistant waving a ball to get the dogs attention. Pretty Neat huh?
